HP DL380 hot add drives?
Cannot seem to find info on whether or not I can hot add drives... I have checked the HP documentation and cannot find anything.. Should I be checking the RAID controller, the drive cage..? This topic...

You should be checking the RAID controller features, and if you have any installed licenses for it. They sometimes require a special license to activate hot-add.

If the drives have burgundy coloured tags on them they are hot pluggable, if they don't - they aren't. What model is it; DL380e G8, DL380p G8, G7 G6 etc? Can you give the part number of the server?

Drives are burgundy. Model is DL380 G7. RAID controller is smart array p410i. Even in the docs for the RAID controller it makes no mention. Odd. Thanks for the replies.

P410 is most definitely able to hot add. Just use the HP RAID command line tool that I mention in my post.

With HP, anything that has a burgundy tab is hot swap, anything blue you have to turn it off

i was looking into buying one of these before. yeah, they are hot-swappable, as long as the drive(s) you're using supports it :)

I know that the drives are hot swappable...what i am asking about is to make them active within VMWARE. Normally i must reboot the system then configure them via the Raid utility during post.
